the Friends...

The Friends of the Robesonia Furnace was established in 1988 to preserve and disseminate information about the Robesonia area, with an emphasis on the Furnace.  The Friends attempts to emphasize the role that the local iron industry played in the growth of the area and encourage the preservation of the Furnace ruins.  We try to increase public awareness of our rich heritage and present historic information through festivals, lectures, displays and publications.

The Friends of the Robesonia Furnace Inc. is funded through yearly dues from members, fund raising projects and generous donations.  Recent acquisitions have been the purchase of the Furnace Fire House, a weigh house/switch tenders shanty and other local relics.  The Fire House has been relocated from its original site to a tract of land acquired by the Friends.  A basement (the Friends official "office"!) has been added and the engine area, restored as a museum, displaying artifacts obtained by the Friends.

The Friends of the Robesonia Furnace is dedicated to educating our local youth about the Robesonia Furnace.  Each year local students are invited to visit and tour the Furnace grounds.  The students are treated to a tour of the former Furnace Office Building, the Furnace Firehouse, a walk through the grounds where the furnace buildings once stood, and shown some of the former tenant houses.

The Friends of the Robesonia Furnace publishes a newsletter twice a year to keep members informed of upcoming events.  The newsletter contains articles on recent historic research on the former furnace and other local history.

An annual Furnace Festival is held each September featuring great food, entertainment, arts and crafts and walking tours hosted by Lester Breininger Jr.  ( a favorite of many)!
